About Debbie

Debbie RobelPrior to becoming a health coach, I spent 20 years at AT&T in marketing communications and public relations. Like many women, work and family took priority over taking care of myself. Ten years into my career, I started to feel the effects of this lifestyle. I developed digestive issues, daily headaches and constant sinus congestion. Side effects from medications only added to my discomfort.

Frustrated with our health care system, I sought out the help of a holistic chiropractor. He recommended supplements and diet changes based on blood and other non-invasive tests. I was getting some relief, but his time with each patient was limited. So I began researching and visiting other alternative practitioners to find the answers.

What I found most confusing was the information about making diet changes. My body rejected most of the so-called “health food” products made with soy or wheat gluten. I wanted real food that agreed with my body. But the recipes needed to be simple and something the rest of the family would be willing to try.

My research led me to the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, which offered the most comprehensive program for holistic health. The education provided the foundation for restoring my health and to help others who struggle with balancing their life. After graduating, I spent two years cooking, developing recipes and teaching cooking classes at a local restaurant.

Then in 2004 I founded Guided Wellness, a company devoted to helping people who are ready to take an active role in their health and wellbeing. We cut through the nutrition myths and media hype, and define the food that is right for the individual. We explore healthier habits to support the messages our body is sending and make mindful choices to attain personal goals.

In addition to my practice, I have volunteered at The Wellness Community, a cancer support center in central New Jersey since 2005. My cooking classes are one of the most popular programs at the center. I have appeared on EBRU TV, a satellite station that features wellness practitioners on the show Daily Connections. And I have had several articles published in Natural Awakenings, a resource for holistic living.
